As a kid do you remember the ceramic pets and heads that you could buy that had sprouting hair? Chances are those long locks of hair were grown from chia seeds!!!

Fortunately, we now know the true plant power these small seeds contain.... Chia Seeds are often referred to as a 'super food' and are a complete plant protein!! That means they contain all the essential amino acids we need for good health. They also contain omega 3 Fatty Acids which are great for keeping our brains in tip top condition!!

Consumption of around 2 tablespoons of chia contains 4 grams of protein, 11 grams of fibre and around 18% of our daily calcium requitements. The last point is particularly important if you don't consume dairy and you need alternative ways to increase your calcium intake.

Egg free recipes often use a chia egg to stabilise baked goods, chia can also be used to thicken and stabilise jam. A simple way to increase your consumption of chia is to add them to your cereal or smoothies. You can pre-soak them to minimise the 'crunch' or just add them whole or ground.

Another great way to eat them is in a chia pudding... YUM!! 😋
